In a nutshell, FIREPROOF is a strategic framework for leading success. In the blog below, I will tell you how it came about and how it works…
Introduction
So, in 2023, I finally decided to make some life changing decisions that would free up 2 days in each week, to start to relax more and take care of my own wellbeing. The only problem with that was it led to me having more time for creative thinking!!
Following a catch up with my trusted mentor Nick Day, who said “We’ve spoken about a number of coaching models out there, but what’s your coaching model? I want to hear all about your model…” I was full of questions, the main one being – what IS my model?
This led to my first few days off being spent reflecting on a lifetime of elite sport and business coaching, to consider my approach to supporting people to achieving successful outcomes. Three days later and a culmination of more than 30 years and 1000’s of coaching and leadership development sessions, resulted in the FIREPROOF framework .
This framework covers each stage of the coaching process, to help users adopt a highly strategic approach when facing any challenge. It covers all aspects of the planning phase, enabling users to implement it full of confidence, trusting that it will deliver the desired outcome successfully.
I am proud and delighted to share with you my FIREPROOF© framework!
The FIREPROOF Acronym:
Frame the situation – establishing an acute understanding of self-awareness is the critical starting point of any change journey. If we fail to see the reality of our current status, then how do we even begin to consider changes?
Identify hazards – consider all the things that currently, or in the future, have the potential to cause us harm. These should include physical, emotional, mental and economic plus any others you might think of.
Risk assess – work through each potential hazard and assess the likelihood of them happening. If the harm could be great and its highly likely to happen, then we should prioritise this as a focus to eliminate or, at the very least, significantly reduce them.
Evaluate options – what can I do right now to get started? How can I begin to affect a change? What do I have at my disposal (people & skills) to make an immediate impact?
People – who will I need to help me to deliver the goals successfully? What kind of skills, knowledge and experience do they need to have? How and where do I source these people? Do I have the right team or do I need to create one before I start?
Resources – what venues, machinery, systems, processes, materials and equipment will I need to help me deliver the desired outcome successfully. Financial backing will also be a resource consideration.
Organise – the mechanical efficiency and reliability of your people and resources, requires them all to be organised into a clear plan of action. Dependability relies on clarity of roles, responsibilities and clearly defined expectations.
Observe – like any action plan, its crucial that you closely monitor and assess its implementation and progress. Make changes as required and ‘be bold’ if necessary.
Feedback – one of the most fundamentally essential components of the successful execution of any action plan, is to constantly gain feedback. Observe, listen, review data and solicit information from any other trusted sources and don’t forget to share the feedback with the relevant people – involve all of the team.
Now, like any theory, the real success comes from the ability to artistically apply the learning in the real world. At Beyond The Podium we truly believe that if we coached you (and/or your team) through just one challenge using FIREPROOF, you would have the tools to be able to face that, and any future challenges, with real confidence. BUT prepare to be challenged on your thinking – you know we love to roll up our sleeves and dig deep!
